Family members have remembered a slain bikie as a “big brother and protector”, and said they had been crushed by his death.
Finks bikie gang associate Jamie Goodworth, 32, died after stumbling into Liverpool Hospital just after 1am on Saturday suffering gunshot wounds.
It is understood his injuries were so severe that doctors and hospital staff were unable to identify who he was and he was unable to discloose who he was.
“Rest in peace to my big brother Jamie Goodworth. Absolutely f..king crushed and gutted right now, and lost for words,” his sister Jess posted on Facebook.
“You were my absolute favourite family member I had left and I’m shattered you’ve been taken from me and your family. Life’s so unfair and mean.”
Mr Goodworth is understood to have been a father and family man, who had also been a longtime player for the Budgewoi Bulldogs rugby league team on the Central Coast.
Both the football club and his partner Amanda also shared their tributes on Facebook, with the later saying his family will “love him forever”.
Despite being rushed into emergency surgery Goodworth died of his injuries.
Police say he was dropped off at hospital by another man in a blue vehicle. That car has since been found.
Police are treating the incident as separate to the city’s gang war, however detectives from the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad are investigating the matter, which authorities believe to be deliberate and gang-related.
On Saturday they revealed the man may have been “targeted”.
Detectives looking for Goodworth’s associates and tracking his last movements before he arrived at the hospital.
The death follows a previous unrelated shooting incident in Liverpool on Wednesday, where a 49 year-old man was arrested for shooting in the area and charged with possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life, possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence and attempted robbery.
For those with information on Saturday’s incident, police urge the public to contact Liverpool Police directly or message Crimestoppers at their website or at 1800 333 000.
