A western Sydney man will remain behind bars on remand after he allegedly terrorised a suburban street with an AK-47-shaped bong..
Jason Clem Kemp, 50, appeared before Parramatta Local Court on Thursday charged with possessing an unauthorised firearm and intimidation.
Police officers responded to multiple triple-0 calls about 5.30pm on Wednesday reporting that a man had been seen allegedly carrying a large firearm on Windsor Rd in Rouse Hill, a court heard.
Police searched the area and reviewed CCTV footage from surrounding businesses, which led officers to an unlocked and unattended vehicle in a nearby church car park.
Inside, officers allegedly located an imitation AK-47 assault rifle which police allege is a bong.
Police from Blacktown, Riverstone, and Ryde - with the assistance of PolAir - launched a widespread search of the area, before officers found a man in nearby grassland.
He was arrested and taken to Castle Hill police station.
Appearing at Parramatta court, Kemp’s lawyer said the 50-year-old was not applying for bail.
He would remain behind bars on remand while he sought private legal representation.
He will reappear before Parramatta Local Court on April 13.
