A man is set to appear in court on Wednesday after being charged in connection with two alleged armed robberies in Newtown and Haymarket.
On Monday, Inner West and Sydney police began investigations following reports of armed robberies at two jewellery stores.
Authorities allege a 41-year-old man first attended a jewellery shop on Sussex St, Haymarket, about 11.20am where he is accused of threatening staff before brandishing a firearm.
Shortly after, the man allegedly entered Cyrus Jewellery store on King St, Newtown, where he demanded goods from staff before pouring an unknown liquid on the counter and again threatening them with a firearm.
He fled the scene before police arrived. No injuries or stolen property were reported.
Following further inquiries, police seized a replica handgun from a home on Station St, Newtown, for forensic examination.
On Tuesday, detectives searched a home on Yenda Ave, Queens Park and, about 6.45pm, the man presented himself at Waverley Police Station, where he was arrested.
He faces four charges: two counts of robbery while armed with a dangerous weapon and two counts of possessing an unauthorised pistol.
The man was refused bail and will appear before Waverley Local Court on Wednesday.
