A man has been charged following a violent brawl involving up to 40 people, some of whom were armed with knives, machetes and baseball bats in South Granville.
Michael Palalagi, 29, was the first person to be charged over the violent altercation after emergency services were called to a reserve on Byrnes St shortly before 5.40pm on Sunday after reports of the brawl.
By the time officers arrived the group had scattered on foot and in cars.
Palalagi was arrested on Mons St in South Granville a short time later and taken to Auburn Police Station, where he was charged with affray and custody of a knife in a public place.
He was refused bail and expected to face Parramatta Local Court on Monday, but that was adjourned to Tuesday instead.
He remains in custody.
Footage from a nearby house captured the brazen nature of the scuffle, with a man running down the street in daylight, followed by at least six others.
In another clip a man is narrowly avoided by a car as he stands on the street.
As police rushed to the scene, the group scattered, fleeing on foot and in cars.
