Man allegedly bashed and held in Wallsend unit for hours

A man has been hospitalised after being bashed and held against his will inside a Wallsend unit complex for “a number of hours”, police allege.
Newcastle City police district officers were called to a Davis Ave unit block about 4pm on Wednesday following reports that a person was being held inside.
Upon arrival, police allegedly found a 35-year-old man inside the unit suffering multiple injuries.
He was treated at the scene by paramedics before being taken to John Hunter Hospital for further treatment.
A man, 41, was arrested at the scene and taken to Newcastle police station where he was charged with take and detain in company with intent to commit serious indictable offence and assault occasioning actual bodily harm in company.
He was refused bail to appear in Newcastle Local Court on Thursday.
“Police will allege the younger man had been assaulted and detained at the Wallsend unit complex for a number of hours by more than one person,’’ a police spokeswoman said.
“Investigations are continuing into the incident.”
