A man extradited from Queensland after shots were allegedly fired at police during a wild pursuit through Sydney’s southwest has been charged.

Paea Tuiniua, 20, was due to appear before Downing Centre Local Court on Tuesday.

Police responded to reports of a man attempting to gain entry to a home on Calaria Cl in Edensor Park about 1.30am on New Year’s Eve.

Fairfield City Police officers were told two people, believed to be armed with a firearm, left the scene in a Hyundai sedan.

Police observed the Hyundai a short time later, travelling on Cowpasture Rd, Hichinbrook and attempted to stop the sedan.

When the Hyundai failed to stop, a pursuit was initiated, however, it was terminated shortly after due to safety concerns.

Police will allege an occupant of the car fired shots towards pursuing police, impacting the front bonnet of the police vehicle.

The 20-year-old male driver, Faez Finau, was arrested while the passenger fled the scene and despite an extensive search of the area, he was unable to be located.
