The sister-in-law of Sydney fashionista and socialite Kate Waterhouse is facing serious allegations of defrauding the federal government.

Kylie Ricketson, the sister of Waterhouse’s retired footballer husband Luke, is up for 25 charges relating to allegations of defrauding the Commonwealth through her applications for various grants.

It is not suggested Kate or Luke are in any way involved in the conduct alleged against Kylie.

The charges include multiple counts of obtaining a financial advantage by deception, attempting to obtain a financial advantage by deception, and dishonestly intending to obtain a gain.

The 54-year-old is yet to enter any pleas.

Documents tendered to Downing Centre Local Court in January reveal the charges pertain to applications Ricketson allegedly made for Medicare benefits from Services Australia, Australian government disaster recovery allowances, pandemic leave disaster payments and high-risk settings pandemic payments.

The allegations span from October 2021 to November 2022.

On January 21, the court heard the Commonwealth Director of Public Prosecutions had declined to deal with the matter in the local court, and the charges were anticipated to proceed in the NSW District Court.

Ricketson’s matter was then adjourned to March 18 for charge certification, which establishes the charges that will proceed on indictment for trial or sentence.

The court heard Ricketson is living in Queensland.

Ricketson’s brother was an Australian and NSW State of Origin representative player, in addition to his status as a legend of the Sydney Roosters, where he spent 14 seasons.

Waterhouse meanwhile is daughter of racing industry maven Gai.

The Ricketsons’ late father Doug was likewise a Roosters legend, playing 60 first grade games.
