Detectives are investigating whether a man with links to the Nomads bikie gang was shot at another location before being dumped behind an Edgeworth shopping centre.

The bikie gang-targeting Raptor Squad is assisting Lake Macquarie detectives in the investigation into Friday night’s shooting, which they said is being hampered by a lack of co-operation from the victim.

The Sydney man, 27, was found next to Arnott St – behind the Coles Supermarket – about 9.10pm on Friday with a single bullet wound which had passed through his lower right thigh and calf.

He was taken to John Hunter Hospital to undergo surgery for the wound, which was not considering to be life-threatening.

His refusal to provide a statement or talk with police has set back the investigation into a possible motive, police said.

But his links with the Nomads bikie gang, and the suspicion he was shot at another location before he was dumped in the quiet street, now forms part of the investigation.

Operational support group police have made a sweeping search of an area surrounding Arnott St in a bid to uncover further clues.

Investigators are appealing for witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage to contact Lake Macquarie police or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
