Kasey Glover sentenced to jail time over hour-long police chase broadcast live

The chase came to a spectacular end after the stolen vehicle ploughed into a power pole in north-western Sydney. Watch the moment of impact, and how quickly police arrived on the scene.

High speed pursuit ends with dramatic crash in Sydney’s west

A Sydney father who led police on a sensational high-speed car chase that was broadcast live on television has been jailed for nearly five-and-a-half years.

Kasey Glover faced sentencing in Campbelltown District Court last week after pleading guilty to 26 charges stemming from a litany of crimes including mail theft, car theft, gun possession and a terrifying home invasion in which a woman was threatened with a knife while her three children lay asleep in another room.

While each of Glover’s offences were serious in their own right, his name - and details of his crimes - would likely have been consigned to history had it not been for his audacious, drug-fuelled antics behind the wheel of a stolen Hyundai Sonata, which captured the attention of media helicopters and catapulted his name into the headlines.

According to court documents, highway patrol officers spotted the Hyundai near Casula shortly before 10am on July 20 last year and attempted to pull it over but Glover sped off.

Officers gave chase but the pursuit was quickly abandoned due to safety concerns after the car ran into a truck on the M5, causing extensive damage to the front of the smaller vehicle.

PolAir - together with two media helicopters - followed the car through multiple western Sydney suburbs including Homebush, Parramatta and North Parramatta, before highway patrol officers resumed their chase on the ground.

Sky News broadcast live as the pursuit came to a spectacular end when Glover crashed the car into a light pole at North Rocks shortly after 11am.

The video footage shows police pouring out of marked and unmarked police cars before arresting Glover and a female passenger.

Police discovered a sawn-off shotgun, gel blaster and Remington cartridges in the boot of the car when the car was searched.

Glover later told police he was unlicensed and had been under the influence of drugs while driving that day.

In sentencing Glover, Judge Pauline David noted he had penned a letter of apology to the court outlining his remorse.

“I, Kasey Glover, would like to sincerely apologise from the bottom of my heart for my dangerous and irresponsible actions of driving under the influence of drugs whilst also being disqualified having firearms in the car in the police pursuit,” Judge David said in reading from Glover’s letter.

“I’m so sorry I put other road users at risk, it was so dangerous and so stupid, I could have really hurt someone or worse. Thank god I didn’t.”

The court heard he also apologised for his role in a home invasion a year earlier, saying he understood the victim and her children would have been terrified.

Agreed facts in that case reveal Glover and another man were both armed with knives when they confronted the female home owner before stealing two vehicles parked in the garage.

“I know now my actions caused fear and trauma which was not my intention and I will never forgive myself for what I have caused,” he wrote.

The court heard Glover had experienced significant deprivation, trauma and neglect as a child, leading him to delve into drugs at a very young age, including trying methamphetamine for the first time at the age of 12.

Judge David accepted that much of Glover’s offending had been motivated by his need to acquire money to fund his drug addiction.

She sentenced Glover to an overall jail term of five years and five months, with a non-parole period of three years and five months.

With time served, Glover will be eligible for parole in December 2026.
