Police will announce a $1 million reward for information into the brutal murder of a grandfather and fruit grower killed during a home invasion in Sydney’s northwest.
Kalim Saliba, 86, died after suffering a blow to the head when two men forced entry into his home on Tallowwood Ave, Cherrybrook, just before 12.30am on April 29, 2020.
Mr Saliba was part of the Saliba Fruits family, which has run an apple orchard in Bilpin for almost 50 years.
He and his wife Josephine, 83, were watching television when the intruders broke into the home before demanding money and setting upon the couple.
Mr Saliba and his wife both suffered serious head injuries in the attack. They were treated at the scene before being taken to Westmead Hospital, where Mr Saliba later died.
Officers from Ryde Police Area Command established a crime scene, which was examined by specialist forensic officers, and commenced inquiries into the incident, before detectives from the Homicide Squad took carriage of the investigation under Strike Force McCleery.
Despite extensive inquiries and an emotional appeal from the family in April, no arrests have been made.
Last month, police released images of a vehicle of interest - a grey Audi - they believe may have been used in the attack.
Police now hope that a $1 million reward for information will help police track down those responsible.
Anyone with information over the incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 18000 333 000.
