A man appeared in a Sydney court on Wednesday charged with assaulting a teenage girl at a popular inner city park where she was skateboarding.
Police allege that Jordan Rosier, 28, approached the 13-year-old when she sat down for a short time on a bench at Tempe Reserve on Saturday afternoon and began talking to her.
The girl had gone to the park with her father who was walking their dog not far from where his daughter was playing.
It is alleged the man assaulted the girl soon after talking to her at around 2.30pm and fled when the father and other members of the public approached him.
A witness was able to give information to the father which helped police identify the alleged offender who was arrested at a home in Belmore later that evening. .
“We understand there were about twelve other people in the park including a group of young girls who may be able to assist us,’’ said Detective Inspector Brett Van Akker.
“Our investigations are continuing and we would ask any potential witnesses to contact us,’’ he said.
Rosier did not apply for bail when he appeared at the Downing Local Court yesterday and was ordered to reappear on October 22.
