An allegedly unlicensed practitioner who calls himself “injectorJosh” is under investigation by NSW’s medical watchdog after it received reports he has performed “high risk” procedures without necessary qualifications.
The Health Care Complaints Commission (HCCC) has issued a public warning against injectorJosh, after several reports about his conduct at clinics across Sydney were made to investigators.
The man has posted social media videos of himself performing “butt lifts”, thread-based facelifts and cosmetic injections, boasting about the results.
The HCCC has allegedly received “multiple complaints” about him, revealing he uses the handle “injectorjosh_” on Instagram and “faisalbasim7” on Snapchat to advertise his services.
“The Commission is concerned that this individual is putting public health at risk by performing high-risk procedures without the necessary qualifications and may be misleading people into believing he is legally authorised to do so,” a spokesman said in a statement.
The Commission says it has obtained evidence that he “does not hold the necessary qualifications to lawfully perform skin-penetrating procedures in Australia” yet has worked across multiple clinics in Sydney.
The public warning comes after the Telegraph last month revealed seven cosmetic injectors and clinics are being investigated following claims of botched fillers, butt injections and infections.
In 2021, just four complaints were made about cosmetic therapists in NSW, last year that was up to 21, according to the HCCC, while a further 44 complaints were made last year relating to cosmetic health facilities.
The HCCC says it is concerned the true number of botched procedures is “much higher” than is being reported, urging people to contact them with all complaints.
“The NSW Health Care Complaints Commission has zero tolerance for non-registered practitioners performing cosmetic procedures without the appropriate qualifications or training,” the spokesman told the Telegraph.
“These unlawful practices pose serious risks to patient safety, and we are taking firm action to protect the public from harm... We are increasingly concerned about the disregard for patient safety, and suspect many cases go unreported.”
Anyone with information about injectorJosh, or who has been treated by him, is urged to contact the HCCC.
