Amar Kettule assassination investigation leads police to release incredible CCTV

Dressed head to toe in black, two men run straight into the line of a CCTV camera near where underworld gangster Amar Kettule was shot dead in January.

New footage released as police probe Fairfield shooting

The gun used to fire more than 20 bullets into the body of gangster Amar Kettule had also been the weapon of choice for five other underworld shootings in the south-west Sydney area dating back to 2016.

Kettule’s execution-style murder in the early hours of Sunday, January 10 is believed to have been the latest conflict in the ongoing war between two Assyrian crime gangs - True Kings and DLASTHR (The Last Hour).

Before his murder Kettule, 34, had been a high-ranking member of True Kings and was well aware his life was constantly under threat.

NSW Police have now released vision of two men they suspect were involved in his shooting, dressed head to toe in black and running from the scene and straight into the line of a CCTV camera just moments after the execution.

“A very strong line of inquiry is the ongoing conflict in the Assyrian crime network, which has been historically between the True Kings and DLASTHR criminal networks,” Homicide Squad commander, Detective Superintendent Danny Doherty said.

“We can confirm that the firearm that was used, or the handgun that was used to kill Amar Kettule, had been linked to other shootings - five other unsolved shootings in the Fairfield area.

“It’s a significant link, I know with those groups there’s usually a wall of silence and they’re not forthcoming with information, but we’re trying to break that wall of silence and why this appeal is so important.

“Someone may have some information or know who these people are, either personally may have heard something or maybe from the footage.”

Kettule was gunned down as he sat in his car on Ware St in Fairfield about 2.40am on Sunday, January 10.

Later that same day a black Jeep Cherokee believed to have been used in his assassination was found burnt out on Reserve St at Smithfield.

Homicide Squad detectives investigating the crime under Strike Force Fitzhill have also released CCTV of a white Toyota Corolla hatchback seen driving down Reserve St about 8.15pm the same day.

They believe the car was used as a getaway vehicle after the Jeep was set alight.

Det Supt Doherty said despite the difficulties an investigation like this presents, police remain confident of making arrests.

“This is a callous and brutal crime that happened in the streets of Sydney in the early hours of the morning at Fairfield,” he said.

“It is nearly 12 months on and it has been a very long and complex and protracted inquiry and investigation. The investigators on Strike Force Fitzhill have not given up and are determined to resolve this matter.

“This conflict‘s been going on for some time and we feel that we need to start allaying the fears of the community and by coming forward, if we can resolve this matter, it may prevent further violent conflict.”

Kettule’s death came just seven years after that of his brother Dylann, who was just nineteen when he was gunned down in Canley Vale.

In late-2020 DLASTHR member Samer Marcus was shot in the head, leaving him a quadriplegic and unable to ever walk again.
