After Reynold Glover was sent back to prison for shooting Bassam Hamzy’s aunt, he ran into the crime boss by chance and the pair moved to settle their diffences.
Despite previously having a healthy respect for Hamzy, Glover now held a strong grudge against him after his cousin Bilal stole $5000 from his mother.
Glover and Hamzy met by chance while the pair were being moved between their cells in Silverwater Jail on March 17, 2013.
They locked eyes and the sentiment was mutual.
“Let’s do this,” one of them said before they went for each other.
Glover had been transferred from Goulburn’s Supermax to Sydney to appear in court.
Prison guards were leading Hamzy out of his segregation cell so he could make a phone call.
Glover was being led the opposite direction when the guards opened the door to Hamzy’s cell and the two men spotted each other.
They did their best to inflict an injury on the other, despite both being cuffed and chained.
Each prisoner landed several blows.
However, a combination of the weight of their restraints, and the quick actions of the prison officers, meant the fight did not reach a natural conclusion.
Both men ended up on the ground and prison officers took control of the situation.
Glover and Hamzy promised to kill each other and were both banned from prison buy-ups for 28 days.
