Slain hitman Hamad Assaad’s brother has been charged after allegedly breaking into a ritzy car hire business and stealing a computer in western Sydney.

Tarek Assaad, 36, was arrested on Friday after police allege they spotted him driving a Lancer with two stolen number plates not long after the business was broken into in the early hours of the morning.

Assaad is currently living in the Twin Swallows hotel after his Condell Park home went up in flames in April, according to court documents.

He has been charged with breaking and entering into the storeroom of Unique Car Hire in Fairfield East in the early hours of Tuesday morning with another man.

Police allege while there he destroyed property and stole a computer worth $1500.

In court they flagged they would be applying for a detention order to keep Assad in custody.

Assaad is the older brother of underworld hitman Hamad Assad, who was implicated in a string of gangland killings before he too was gunned down in October 2016.

Tarek Assaad will remain in custody after fronting court on Saturday.

Tarek Assaad was also shot in 2017, surviving a bullet to the shoulder and arm outside his Condell Park home.

That home is nothing more than rubble and ash after a fire razed it earlier this year, leaving Assaad effectively homeless.

The shooting bore striking similarities to the murder of his brother, who was also shot dead on the driveway of his home six years ago.

Assaad did not come up from the cells during a brief mention of his case in Parramatta Bail Court on Saturday, where his lawyer Wasim Jabakhangi did not apply for bail.

The court was told Assaad has a raft of other court dates in Sydney and is also facing common assault and contravening an AVO charges.

He will face court again at a later date.
