New details have emerged about the shocking death of Dejan “Danny the Serb” Radulovic in Balmain earlier this year, as a man faced court on charges of being an accessory to murder.
Nicholas James Alexander, 30, faced Bankstown Local Court on Wednesday where new details emerged about the alleged murder of Radulovic.
Radulovic, 29, had been thought to have been bashed and stabbed, before being left for dead on Donnelly St in the middle of the afternoon on Saturday, July 29, as his attackers fled in a white Jeep SUV, found dumped and on fire in nearby Five Dock a short time later – with a gun in the boot.
NSW Police have revealed a post-mortem established that gun was also used to shoot Radulovic, on top of the bashing and stabbing.
Detectives attached to Strike Force Dears arrested Alexander at Campsie Police Station on Tuesday afternoon, and charged him with accessory to murder in relation to his alleged involvement in Radulovic’s death.
Alexander made no application for bail and it was officially refused, with his next court appearance set for Downing Centre Local Court on November 2.
Radulovic – known to friends as “Danny” – had been released on parole in April after serving nine months behind bars for drug supply, with police saying in the aftermath of his death he had low-level links to organised crime.
Last September, Radulovic was sentenced to a maximum 16 months jail in Liverpool Local Court for supplying less than an indictable amount of drugs.
Other offences including possessing a prohibited weapon without a permit and possessing ammunition saw him sentenced to a community corrections order (CCO) that was still in place when he died.
Police are continuing to hunt two men of “Maori or Pacific Islander appearance”, who were seen arguing with Radulovic when he was killed.
Radulovic’s mother Liliana Jovanovic posted an emotional tribute to her son in the aftermath of his death.
“To all friends and family, just to let you know that (a) tragedy has happened,” she wrote.
“My son known (as) Danny Rad or Danny Serb, tragically passed away on Saturday 29.7.23 at 3.30pm.”
Ms Jovanovic’s post on Facebook was littered with tributes from her son’s family and friends, shocked at the news.
Radulovic’s sister Lara paid tribute to a man she called her “best friend”.
“My brother/best friend is gone and I can’t believe I’m not in Sydney to come to his funeral,” she wrote.
“I love you so much Danny. Watching over us, as god has gained one of his strongest soldiers. Love you. Gone, but never forgotten.”
NSW Police said in a statement their investigations under Strike Force Dears are continuing.
