Guildford shooting ‘link’ to Alameddine crime family

A man is in a serious condition and a car has been left riddled with bullets after a shooting which is believed to be linked to an ongoing crime family feud.

Mejid Hamzy hit: Fears of new all-out Sydney gang war

An Alameddine relative has been gunned down in Western Sydney months after his family home was targeted in a drive-by shooting “strongly linked” to the gangland feud between the warring Alameddine and Hamzy crime families.

Assad Alahmad suffered a gunshot wound to the neck when a volley of bullets hit his car as he sat idle in a Guildford street about 9.40pm on Monday – the second shooting targeting his family this year.

The wounded 27-year-old relative of the notorious Alameddine crime family – who has never been convicted of any criminal offences – drove to his home on Woodstock Ave, Guildford, before being rushed to Westmead Hospital, where he remains in a serious condition.

Neighbours reported hearing a woman “wailing” before a car sped down the street.

Assad’s bullet-riddled Audi was found in the driveway of his home by police that evening, while a burnt-out black Porsche Cayenne – being investigated as the possible getaway vehicle – was found 3km away.

The Daily Telegraph can reveal the Woodstock Ave home is linked to the Alameddine crime family, which has been involved in a feud with the Hamzys for months.

The house was shot at on March 12 in an incident that was being investigated as “strongly linked” to the gangland feud and raided by police just days earlier.

Cumberland Police Area Command Acting Inspector Dave Somerville said police believed the attack was linked to “ongoing matters” under police investigation.

“We believe this is a targeted shooting and it relates to ongoing matters. This is not a random attack and does not present a threat to the general community,” he said.

Acting Insp Somerville said the victim was not co-operating with police and was known to them. “The incident is callous,” he said. “It’s serious … We will not tolerate these public violence incidents.”

Police are now urging anyone in the Guildford area who heard gunshots or saw a black Porsche Cayenne in the area to contact police.

The dispute between the crime clans over drug distribution rights erupted into a full-blown war when Hamzy patriarch Mejid Hamzy was shot dead outside his home in Condell Park on October 19.

In February, the Auburn house of Mejid Hamzy’s aunt, Maha Hamze, was shot at, weeks after an innocent bystander was injured in an attack suspected to be aimed at a Hamzy associate. There is no suggestion of any wrongdoing by Ms Hamze.

The Hamzy family is led by Brothers 4 Life founder Bassam Hamzy, who is locked up in Goulburn’s Supermax prison alongside Talal Alameddine, who was convicted of sourcing the gun that killed police accountant Curtis Cheng in 2015.
