The man’s destructive rampage began about 12.20am Saturday, when he allegedly stole a truck from a property on Toongabbie Rd, Girraween.

For about 30 minutes, it’s alleged the man sped through the western Sydney suburb, crashing into parked vehicles and fences, despite the flurry of sirens and flashing lights following him.
Police deployed road spikes at the intersection of Aldgate St and again near Metella Rd, while a roadblock was established at the intersection of the Great Western Highway and Tarlington Pl, Prospect.
It’s understood that after hitting the spikes, the truck collided with several police vehicles, smashing the front windscreen of the truck and causing significant damage to the police cars.
The 45-year-old truck driver – was initially trapped in the vehicle and refused to co-operate with police. Once he was freed from the cab, the man was treated by NSW Ambulance Paramedics before being taken to Westmead Hospital for assessment, where he remains.
Five police cars were damaged, and an Inspector was assessed by NSW Ambulance Paramedics after the force of the collision with the truck punted his vehicle into a power pole.
He was given the all clear by paramedics, and there were no other reports of injuries to police or other road users.
Inquiries into the pursuit and crash continue with charges expected this afternoon.
