A fight over a female allegedly involved with two rival Sydney street gangs may have led to a number of public place shootings, police believe.

Three men have been charged after a spate of early morning arrests in the Cabramatta area on Tuesday over the shootings on July 25, 2020 and then on three consecutive days between August 31 and September 2.

One possible motive being investigated is that the female was involved in relationships with members of the two Vietnamese gangs.

The three men - aged 23, 29 and 33 - allegedly belong to one gang and were targeting their rivals in the Sydney drug trade.

All are charged with firing a firearm at a house with disregard for safety and participating in a criminal group.

The 29-year-old from Fairfield is also charged with possessing ammunition without a gun licence.

The 23-year-old from St Johns Park was charged with intending to cause grievous bodily harm with a firearm.

Police allege the incidents included shots fired at a Bonnyrigg home last August, the shooting of a 19-year-old man at Cabramatta and shots fired at homes in St Johns Park and Fairfield Heights a few days later.

All three men were refused police bail and will face Fairfield Local Court on Wednesday.
