Fugitive Mark Horne has been extradited to NSW after he was arrested in the hull of a yacht in the Northern Territory last week.

After spending three months on the run following an alleged shooting of a truck driver, intelligence led police to Darwin’s Cullen Bay Marina where they found the 32-year-old tucked beneath a fuel tank.

It concluded the nationwide search that started after Horne allegedly breached his bail orders in relation to robbery and assault offences.

Police will allege Horne removed his electronic monitoring device and entered an unknown vehicle in Riverwood before heading westbound on the M5 Motorway on October 21.

Horne had surrendered his passport as part of his bail conditions, but police suspected he was using a fake identity to aid his escape, or that he would escape by water.

Police say the Northern Territory arrest came just hours before the boat he was hiding in was due to leave for South-East Asia.

Horne then faced Darwin Local Court for an extradition hearing on the charge of warrant of interstate apprehension on January 27.

NSW Detectives travelled to Darwin to escort the former fugitive back to NSW arriving at Sydney airport about 6pm on Tuesday.

Raptor squad officers took Horne to Mascot Police Station where he was charged with the outstanding warrants.

He was refused bail and will appear at Downing Centre Local Court on Wednesday.

Investigations are ongoing as police try to identify who may have assisted Mr Horne’s departure from NSW.

More to come.
