A high-flying banker with ties to Sydney’s glittering social scene has been sentenced after calling arresting officers “c**s” and kicking a policeman in the head.
Beleaguered financier Fredrick Blencke pleaded guilty to assaulting a police officer, Senior Constable Daniel Cameron, causing bodily harm, and staying in the vicinity of licensed premises after being asked to leave, at Waverley Local Court on May 27.
Mr Blencke, who previously worked for UBS, Goldman Sachs and Bell Potter, has lost his job, his lawyer told the court.
The banker’s life had “bottomed out,” Blencke’s lawyer told the court.
The Sydney man, 49, has “separated from his wife” his lawyer said.
Court documents show Blencke was asked to leave Ravesis Hotel at Bondi Beach after appearing to slur his words and making sexual advances towards a staff member at approximately 10.10pm on April 30, 2021.
When security guards asked him to leave and escorted him off the premises, he told them he had left a bag inside containing important documents including his Swedish passport.
After security guards told Blencke they weren’t able to find the bag, Blencke wandered Hall street, returning several times to the venue in an attempt to get it back, the facts state.
At this point in the night plain clothes police officers observed that Blencke “walked across the street in front of passing cars muttering words to himself,” the documents show, whereby they introduced themselves to the banker.
Blencke was “confrontational with police as he stepped within centimetres of their face and stood over smaller officers,” court documents state.
Further when police asked Blencke multiple times to state his name and address, he said, “no, I’m gonna make it f**king hard for you just cuff me,” the court heard.
When police tried to search him to locate identifying documents Blencke grew aggravated and stated “it’s a tick in my box to be arrested by you c**s”, the facts state.
Senior Constable Daniel Cameron arrived a short time later and assisted Blencke into a caged police vehicle, where Blencke kicked him in the head, neck and right shoulder causing pain, red marks and scratches, according to the facts.
Magistrate Hudson convicted Blencke of assaulting a police officer causing bodily harm, and staying in the vicinity of licensed premises after being asked to leave.
The Magistrate sentenced him to a 12-month community corrections order and fine of $750.
Magistrate Hudson said Blencke should consider the impact alcohol had on his behaviour.
“You bring this on yourself,” the Magistrate said.
“I would like the community to start to understand that police are not punching bags in blue.”
