Elderly fisherman’s body recovered after extensive marine search on Lake Macquarie

An 82-year-old fisherman has been found dead in Lake Macquarie after failing to return from a solo fishing trip.

The body of an 82-year-old man has been recovered from Lake Macquarie following a large-scale search operation after he was reported missing during a solo fishing trip.

Emergency services were called to Summerland Point about 4pm on Thursday after the man failed to return home.

His boat was later found abandoned on the lake, prompting an urgent search by officers from the Tuggerah Lakes Police District and Marine Area Command.

Marine Rescue NSW and Surf Life Saving NSW joined the search, deploying boats and aerial support to scour the area.

Tragically, the man’s body was located in the water at approximately 7.40pm by a Surf Life Saving NSW helicopter.

Authorities have not yet released the identity of the man. Investigations are ongoing, and a report will be prepared for the Coroner.
