A friend says accused Dover Heights stabber Matthew Ramsay had his $10k rehab costs picked up by friends before attack.

A woman and her husband had recently helped accused Dover Heights stabber Matthew Ramsay, 46, to get treatment for alcohol issues.

Friends told The Daily Telegraph the couple hadn’t seen Ramsay “for a few months” ahead of him turning up at a Dover Heights home and allegedly stabbing a woman on Monday.

Ramsay, a well-known commercial real estate agent, is accused of using a kitchen knife to stab a woman once in the chest.

He has been charged with cause wounding/grievous bodily harm with intent to murder.

Police sources said they still have no motive for the alleged daylight attack.

The friend claimed Ramsay’s life changed after he got divorced from his wife, Clair, and she moved to New York with their young daughter.

“He was an excellent worker dedicated to a career in property,” a friend said. “He is a very gentle person.”

The woman is home recovering, but needs ongoing medical treatment for her injury.

At the family home on Thursday, well-wishers were seen visiting the woman.
