A man found slumped in a car will fight charges in court after police allegedly found a sawn-off rifle, ammunition and a balaclava inside the vehicle.

A disqualified driver has been charged after police allegedly found a sawn-off rifle, ammunition and a balaclava in a parked car while responding to reports a man had been slumped over inside with the engine running for more than an hour.
Officers were called to Bogan St in Summer Hill, in Sydney’s inner west, just before 10am on Wednesday in response to a call from a concerned member of the public.
Police allege they foundAlexander Nowlaninside the car with a sawn-off .22 rifle, ammunition, balaclava, gloves, cannabis and drug paraphernalia.
Checks revealed the 34-year-old had been disqualified from driving until June 2027.
He was arrested at the scene and taken to Burwood Police Station, where he was charged with possessing a shortened firearm and ammunition without a permit, possessing a prohibited drug and driving while disqualified.
On Thursday, Nowlan’s matter was briefly mentioned at Burwood Local Court where he did not apply for bail and entered a not guilty plea to all his charges.
The matter was adjourned to July 10 at Burwood Local Court for mention with Nowlan required to appear via audio visual link.
