A disqualified driver has been charged after police allegedly found a sawn-off rifle, ammunition and a balaclava in a parked car while responding to reports a man had been slumped over inside with the engine running for more than an hour.
Officers were called to Bogan St in Summer Hill, in Sydney’s inner west, just before 10am on Wednesday in response to a call from a concerned member of the public.
Police said they found a 34-year-old man inside the car with a sawn-off .22 rifle, ammunition, balaclava, gloves, cannabis and drug paraphernalia.
Checks revealed the man had been disqualified from driving until June 2027.
He was arrested at the scene and taken to Burwood Police Station, where he was charged with possessing a shortened firearm and ammunition without a permit, possessing a prohibited drug and driving while disqualified.
The man was refused bail to face Burwood Local Court on Thursday.
