A major manhunt is underway after another man was stabbed to death in a Jesmond home on Thursday afternoon.
An arrest warrant has been issued for Kevin Smith, 37, following the alleged murder.
Smith is described as being of Caucasian appearance, between 180cm to 185cm tall, of thin build, with green eyes, brown hair, a beard and a moustache. He has a distinctive tattoo on the right side of his face.
The victim, 34, was rushed to John Hunter Hospital after suffering multiple stab wounds in the attack inside a Michael St home about 3.45pm but could not be saved.
Newcastle City detectives have established Strike Force Mantillus to investigate the murder.
Investigators have been told the man was visiting the home and was injured after an altercation with a second man, who is now the subject of a manhunt.
A crime scene was established and forensic experts remained at the scene on Thursday night.
A nature strip and footpath outside the house, which is just metres from busy Blue Gum Rd, was littered with evidence markings adjacent to an overturned trolley.
Discarded clothing also lay nearby.
As detectives canvassed neighbours for any information, other investigators continued to search for the killer.
Police have appealed for anyone with information to contact detectives via Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
