Rohen Hanson: Man, 38, accused of killing partner Dee Annear in secluded forest cabin

A 38-year-old Wingham man charged with the murder of partner Dee Annear, whose body was found inside a secluded Mid-North Coast forest cabin, has fronted Forster Local Court.

A 38-year-old man has appeard in court after he was charged with the murder of a woman whose body was found by police inside a Mid-North Coast forest cabin on the weekend.

Rohen James Hanson, 38, was charged by police on Tuesday with the murder of partner Dee Annear, after investigators located her body inside inside a cabin on Pole Dump Forest Rd, Bulga Forest, west of Taree.

His matter was briefly dealt with in Forster Local Court on Wednesday, where Magistrate Allison Hawkins made instructions for brief service orders to be filed at his next court appearance on November 23.

He was not required to appear in person, but has been told to do so via audio-visual link at the next occasion.

Police are understood to have been called to the cabin – used by hikers to rest while bushwalking – about 11.30am by Mr Hanson and upon arrival they found Ms Annear dead.

Friends ofMs Annear say her passing has “left a huge hole” in their lives.

Ms Annear’s longtime neighbour and friend Janelle Reynolds said her death was devastating.

“Dee was extremely caring. She had a massive heart and always helped anybody she could,” Ms Reynolds said.

“Dee was a very loyal friend and would go above and beyond for the people she considered friends or family, always giving and never taking.

“She was truly one-in-a-million and will be missed beyond words.

“There’s no way she could ever be forgotten, she’s left a huge hole in our lives.”

Ms Annear did not have children but friends said she played the role of stepmother to Mr Hanson’s children.

When ambulance and police arrived at the cabin on Saturday they found Ms Annear had appeared to have suffered head injuries.

Mr Hanson initially told police that they had been in a car accident the previous evening and 3km away they found a silver Holden Rodeo off the road.

A secondary crime scene was set up at that spot on Old Blue Knob Rd.

Mr Hanson was arrested at his Wingham home on Tuesday and taken to Taree Police Station charged with allegedly murdering Miss Annear.

Miss Annear, 34, was found dead in the cabin she and Mr Hanson had spent the night in on Pole Dump Forest Rd at Bulga Forest on the Mid-North Coast on Saturday.

He was charged on Sunday with breaching an apprehended violence order and driving a vehicle while disqualified.

Initially, there was no suggestion he was involved in Ms Annear’s death and the 38-year-old was granted bail.

But at about 5pm on Tuesday, Mr Hanson was arrested by detectives at a home on Killawarra Street, Wingham where he was charged with murder.

He remains bail refused to appear at Taree Local Court on November 23.
