A Sydney man has been charged with murder after his partner was found dead in a western Sydney hotel room.
Police will allege Shirley So, 50, and Darren John Berry, 53, were in an off-and-on relationship and staying at the luxury Pullman Hotel in Penrith, when staff called police to the premises on Sunday afternoon following reports of a disturbance.
Officers arrived just after 1pm to find Ms So dead inside the hotel room, having suffered multiple stab wounds to her body.
Berry has now been charged with murder, and was formally refused bail during a bedside court hearing on Tuesday afternoon.
He is to face Penrith Local Court on Wednesday.
Berry was found inside the same room with significant knife wounds to his arms and hands, before paramedics flew him to Westmead Hospital in a critical condition.
The 53-year-old’s injuries were deemed life threatening but police now believe he will survive.
Police said there have been no reports of domestic violence between the pair.
Berry is a former MMA fighter who went by the name Hacksaw.
On Monday, NSW Police applied to the Local Court to carry out a forensic procedure on Mr Berry.
An interim order was granted allowing detectives to perform the procedure.
Detectives from the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad, as well as the local Nepean Police Area Command, continue to investigate the moments leading up to the woman’s death.
