Police drew a taser and verbally directed the man to the ground, which he complied with.

In a statement police said the taser was not discharged.

The man was handcuffed by police and members of the public.

NSW Ambulance paramedics transported the man to hospital under police guard, however he suffered a medical episode.

Paramedics pulled over and provided critical medical attention, assisted by two further ambulance crews and police officers.

“A co-ordinated life saving operation was undertaken, however the man was unable to be revived and died at Liverpool hospital a short time later,” a NSW Police statement read.

A critical incident team from Bankstown Police Area Command will now investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
