Notorious crime boss Bassam Hamzy has allegedly been brutally attacked inside Goulburn Supermax jail for the second time in just a few months.
Hamzy was punched in the head and momentarily knocked unconscious in the alleged attack in an exercise yard of the state’s most secure prison on Saturday afternoon.
Sources said another prisoner and Hamzy had just been led into the exercise yard, when the other man - who had his handcuffs taken off first - lunged at the Brothers 4 Life gang founder with a shiv, before a prison officer was able to knock the weapon away.
It is alleged the other inmate threw a flurry of punches one of which knocked Hamzy to the ground, before a prison officer intervened.
Despite being concussed it is understood Hamzy did not require further treatment.
“Corrections staff at the High Risk Management Correctional Centre in Goulburn immediately intervened following an assault between two inmates on Saturday, 17 February 2024,” a Corrective Services NSW spokesman said in a statement.
“One inmate suffered injuries to his head area but did not require hospitalisation and refused treatment by on-site medical staff.
“Corrective Services NSW is investigating the incident.”
A similar incident unfolded just before Christmas which saw Hamzy attacked with a shiv by fellow murderer Ricky McNamara.
Sources said that incident occurred in almost identical circumstances with Hamzy still in handcuffs when he was led into a small, caged exercise yard where McNamara was already waiting.
Again he was set upon almost instantly, with McNamara attempting to slash him with a shiv while also throwing a flurry of punches.
It is understood NSW Police has been made aware of the incident, but no charges have so far been laid.
