Comanchero, Lone Wolf, Rebels decimated as police target bikie gangs across Sydney

Sydney’s underworld is experiencing a major power structure shift, with bikie gangs seeing their comrades’ numbers dwindle for two major reasons, according to police.

‘The turning point’ in how police managed bikies

Sydney bikie gangs have lost one fifth of their numbers following an unprecedented crackdown by NSW Police, with the head of the elite Raptor Squad declaring the Comanchero have been “decimated ” and the Lone Wolf and Rebels are in serious decline.

There has been a shift in the power structure in some parts of Sydney with two drug labs belonging to the Lone Wolf bike gang dismantled, their Sydney leader locked up and plans for new clubhouse in the west smashed while the Hells Angels appear to be building their numbers.

“They have been bubbling along but we have hit them pretty hard. but when you hit one others will look to take over,” said Detective Superintendent Andrew Koutsoufis, head of NSW Police’s Raptor Squad.

“They have been a long-term Outlaw Motorcycle Gang and their members range from being old school bikies to those who operate in serious transnational organised crime.

“Lone Wolf still have a handful of clubhouses from Sydney in Emu Plains, Tweed Heads and Coffs Harbour on the North Coast. They recently tried to establish another one at St Mary’s, we found out and took action to stop it.”

Over the past five years NSW bikie numbers have gone from 2500 patched members to around 2000 as police relentlessly target the gangs, with rumours many Comanchero members are looking for other clubs.

“The Comanchero membership from top to bottom has been decimate through out constant attention. They have been copping the brunt of our attention. They have been priority number one and been decimated and doesn’t surprise me there is talk of some of them patching out to other clubs. Why would you sign up to be on hit list number one?” Det Supt Koutsoufis said.

“There is movement are movement between the Hells Angels and the Rebels in southwest Sydney, with a fair few Blacktown Rebels having patched over to the Hells Angels.”

Police are aware the Hells Angels Chinatown chapter, the power base of the club, is also growing. They recently hit the Bandidos in the Hunter after a brawl arresting members and seizing five weapons.

“We can react very quickly when hear of any incident and now have units in the north and south of the state,’’ he said.

“It ebbs and flows. If a club starts to rise we hear about it, not just us but other agencies and squads. Homicide or the drug squad may be working on something and will pass on intelligence or we work with them. Local police get intelligence about the goings as well as the Australian Federal Police and Australian Border force,’’ he said.

Those in the underworld say while the Comanchero have a lot of leaders in jail they are still a force to be reckoned with. Several sources said there are syndicates in Sydney who are still in fear of them and that the Commission, run by them is taxing drug importers.
