A high-profile Sydney solicitor has told of his relief after a criminal charge against him was dropped, just two months after being laid.

Abdul Saddik was in June charged over allegations he shared information and details of an alleged sexual assault complainant, while representing a man charged with the attack.

But The Daily Telegraph can reveal the Office of the Department of Public Prosecutions has advised they will withdraw the single charge against Mr Saddik on Thursday, the same day his matter was due before Parramatta Local Court.

Mr Saddik said in a statement that his work had become “harder” in recent months with the charge hanging over his head but praised the “support” he had received from others in the legal industry.

“This charge never reflected my limitless commitment to my career over the years,” Mr Saddik said.

“Working on the cases I take on is hard. It becomes harder when you’re facing challenges like this.

“I’m glad it was short lived and I’m forever grateful to my colleagues in the profession for their unconditional support, and in particular to my lawyers.”

Mr Saddik has become well known in his profession for representing a number of major figures over the years, including bikie Tarek Zahed, but most notably many members of the Alameddine crime clan.

Mr Saddik, through his lawyer Michael Ayache, had pleaded not guilty to the sole charge of publishing the details of a complainant in a prescribed sexual offence at the first court date back in June.
