Police are hunting three men who assaulted an 81-year-old man and held his distraught wife captive in a terrifying home invasion in Sydney’s south.
St George Police were called to Edward St in Carlton at 11pm on Tuesday, following the aggravated home invasion.
Three men forced their way into the home before two of the bandits assaulted the 81-year-old and stole several items.
The other raider held the man’s 76-year-old wife in a separate room before he stole more items including cash and the keys to the couple’s car.
The three men, all wearing dark clothes with their faces covered, fled the scene in the couple’s sedan.
The vehicle was found abandoned and empty a short distance away.
The couple have been taken to St George Hospital to be checked as a precaution.
It is understood that the couple were shaken but not seriously injured.
A crime scene has been established and inquiries are now underway.
The stolen vehicle has been taken for forensic examination.
