Cabarita husband and wife charged with trying to kidnap after failed business deal

Caroline and Jack Chamoun were arrested by police just days before Christmas over the alleged plot to teach their one-time investment and business partner a lesson.

A wealthy couple charged with paying $10,000 to have a man kidnapped allegedly did so after being left millions out of pocket in property and investment deals.

Caroline, 43, and Jack Chamoun, 48, were arrested by NSW Police just days before Christmas over the alleged plot to teach their one-time investment and business partner a lesson.

The Daily Telegraph can reveal it was Mrs Chamoun who allegedly made the initial outreach to a third party in the hope of allegedly extorting the man.

Sources said Mrs Chamoun mentioned she and her husband lost millions in property and investment deals.

Police launched an investigation after becoming aware of the pair’s alleged intentions and, on December 17, claim the Chamouns paid $10,000 to a third party who they believed would kidnap the man for them.

Four days later on December 21, Mr and Mrs Chamoun were arrested at their waterfront home which they are understood to have bought for more than $4.2 million in 2011.

Heavily-armed officers from the Raptor Squad carried out a dawn raid of their home.

On social media Mrs Chamoun portrayed the couple’s lavish lives, staying at top hotels like the Park Hyatt and wearing designer brands such as Balmain.

Police seized items including clothing, electronics and documents during the raid, which will undergo further forensic analysis.

Sources said the couple were known to be major investors in the property game.

Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) records show that together they ran multiple investment-related companies including JC Chamoun Investments, of which Mrs Chamoun is listed as both the director and secretary of the company.

The couple - who were both born in Lebanon - formed the venture in 2017.

Both Mrs Chamoun and her husband were taken to Burwood Police Station and charged with two counts of take or detain person with intent to obtain advantage and demand with menace, intending to obtain gain or cause loss.

Police seized items including clothing, electronics and documents during the raid, which will undergo further forensic analysis.

Sources said the couple were known to be major investors in the property game.
