Police said the father, 39, and his two teenage daughters, aged 13 and 14, were walking home along Gan Gan Rd about 10.40pm on Monday when an unknown man approached them.

Police allege the man threatened the father with a knife before a struggle ensued between the two men and the father pushed the blade out of his attacker’s hands.

“He and his two daughters restrained the man while alerting police, with officers attached to Port Stephens-Hunter Police District attending a few minutes later and arresting a 22-year-old man,” police said in a statement.

Close was also charged by Port Stephens detectives with the armed robbery of a Subway stoire before Lake Macquarie detectives charged him on Tuesday morning with the unrelated armed robbery of a Cameron Park fast food store on March 14 where an employee was allegedly threatened with a large hunting knife before handing over cash.
