Boxer Harry Garside says he’s in mental war zone over domestic violence allegations

Olympic boxer Harry Garside has revealed he has been in a “war zone mentally” as he deals with his court battle and uncertainty about his future.

Olympic boxer Harry Garside has revealed he has been in a “war zone mentally” as he deals with his court battle and uncertainty about his future.

The 25-year-old was arrested at Sydney Airport earlier this month as he flew home from South Africa following filming of I’m a Celebrity … Get Me Out Of Here!

NSW Police arrested the boxer, who won a bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics, as he made his way to baggage claim and charged him with a domestic violence charge of common assault against his former partner Ashley Ruscoe.

In an Instagram post Garside revealed the last three weeks had been extremely tough for him mentally.

“I found myself finding it really hard to sit by myself, to meditate,” he said.

“At the start of the three weeks I stopped meditating. It’s so interesting to watch the flow-on effect.

“I had so many promises I was making with myself this year … meditate every day, a few other things, and it’s like you let one slip and just watch the others slip as well.”

Garside revealed he found it difficult to be alone, and found himself “just thrashing myself” in training sessions, trying to socialise in between sessions, “just trying my best to stay out of my head”.

He said he had “definitely been in worse states before” and was relieved to now be feeling good and excited for the next chapter, and again able to meditate.

Last week lawyers representing Garside told a court there was video footage which showed his ex as the aggressor as he faces court charged with assaulting her.

The matter was adjourned for two weeks, when the brief of evidence is expected to be served.
