Bondi Junction shooting: ‘I saw police leaning over a person. I didn’t realise he’d been shot’

A dad ready to do the school run walked straight into a crime scene. He saw a person, facedown, next to a car: “I didn’t realise he’d been shot … I just thought they were arresting him”.

Man shot dead at Bondi Junction in suspected gang hit

Richard Harst left his Bondi Junction to do the school run, and walked a straight into a crime scene.

It was about 8.30am when the Spring Street resident walked out of his home, preparing to drop his kids at school, and saw a body in the top level of the car park.

“I was just doing the school run and was on the top level car park,” he said.

“I saw police leaning over a person with their face down, next to a car. I didn’t realise he had been shot though.”

“I just thought they were arresting him. We’ve had people break into cars recently.”

Mr Harst said he then was informed a person had been shot and told there was no access to the car park or the building.

“It’s quite worrying,” he said

It is understood the victim — Alen Moradian, who is believed to have been part of the Commission, a secret cartel which controls the Sydney drug market — was a resident of the building and was ambushed in the car park.

A crowd of Bondi locals, visitors and shoppers gathered at the entrance to Spring Street, lined up along the blue and white police tape, and all shocked at the news of what had unfolded.

Two men who live in a neighbouring apartment building and wished not to be named said they were home at the time of the shooting but didn’t hear anything.

“I didn’t hear anything. I live in the street though and there’s always a lot of expensive sports cars here. Over the past couple of the weeks I’ve seen police searching the boots,” one of the men who had lived in the street for four years said.

“How can a gun get right in here though? It’s shocked me that it’s a murder literally on my door step,” the other man said.

“It’s the eastern suburbs. There are a lot of drugs around here. There’s someone that knows someone that knows someone else.”
