Surrounded by a small guard of the Sydney Comanchero, the younger brother of the gang’s feared enforcer was buried under the watchful eye of senior police still hunting for his killer.

As Comanchero sergeant-at-arms Tarek Zahed woke from his coma on Friday, his younger brother Omar was being buried in a tearful but small ceremony of mourners in leisurewear at Rookwood.

Tarek, 41, is still miraculously fighting for life after being shot 10 times outside an Auburn gym on Tuesday night in an ambush that claimed the life of his brother Omar.

Several Comanchero, including Sydney chapter commander Allan Meehan, remained on the outskirts of mourners at the cemetery as Omar Zahed was lowered into his final resting place.

The gang are rallying around each other and are understood to be in a desperate hunt themselves to find the man brazen enough to target one of the most feared bikies in Australia.

The plot of the cemetery where Omar Zahed was taken is just metres away from where Mahmoud “Brownie” Ahmad and former bikie boss Mick Hawi are also buried.

Ahmad was farewelled a fortnight ago after he too was gunned down after leaving a friend’s home in Greenacre.

It is a section of the cemetery becoming all too familiar for the families of members of the underworld.

Earlier in the day the procession of relatives, friends and underworld figure Ahmed Elomar gathered at Lakemba mosque to say their final goodbyes to Omar.

Zahed’s elderly mother was helped into the mosque by friends and family and fought back tears as one son was buried and another clings to life in Westmead Hospital.

Others, mostly in leisurewear, hid their faces as they left the mosque on Friday morning.

But there was no sign of the youngest Zahed brother, Abdul, who on Thursday asked the Supreme Court to be released on bail to attend the funeral.

It was denied, in part, because police told the court their intelligence suggested Abdul Zahed was looking for revenge after learning of the shooting this week.

A PolAir chopper circled the skies above as officers from specialist organised crime and bikie gang task forces Raptor and Hawk watched on.

Those officers have spent the week doing random firearm searches on hundreds of underworld figures in a bid to flush out the shooter.

While Omar had a criminal history it was in no comparison to his bikie brother Tarek.

On Monday, the day before he was shot dead, Omar Zahed fronted the Sydney District Court to appeal a driving offence.

His fine was reduced from $2500 to $1500 but he was still disqualified from driving for two years.
