Hotel goliaths Arthur and Stuart Laundy have claimed they should not be at the centre of a bizarre court battle involving a disabled elderly lady and her cat, who live above one of their pubs.

The Laundys found themselves dragged into the NSW Supreme Court earlier this month after an urgent filing by Woy Woy woman Rachel Maytom, on behalf of her mother, 83-year-old Pamela Maytom and her government-approved assistance cat.

The Maytoms launched legal action against the multi-millionaire father-and-son pub owners as part of Pamela’s bid to continue living at the Bayview Hotel, claiming in court documents she had been told she was required to move to another room during renovations.

Pamela Maytom claimed in court documents she had been called an “old c..t” by a Bayview Hotel staff member and told “you can get your f..king cat out of there too”.

But, having initially been unaware of any court action until a story ran in The Daily Telegraph on July 8, the Laundys now claim they are not the correct defendants in the matter, saying the pub is owned by a company called Bayview Operations Pty Ltd, of which Arthur Laundy is the director.

“Our clients are not the proper defendants in this matter and the court has no jurisdiction to hear your claim,” a letter from the Laundys’ solicitors to the Maytoms, tendered in court, reads.

In the letter, the Laundys told the Maytoms that if they did not withdraw the proceedings, they would seek a costs application against the elderly lady and her daughter.

However, it is understood there has been no changes to the status of proceedings so far, with the matter listed for a directions hearing on July 26.
