A man has been charged 14 years after he allegedly held up a northern beaches service station with a sawn-off rifle.
Carlos Rangihaeata, 36, was arrested in Brisbane earlier this week, well over a decade after he allegedly robbed a servo on Pittwater Rd, Narrabeen, in 2011.
His arrest followed a public appeal last month, when police released CCTV images from the time of the alleged robbery.
At the time of the incident, police were told a man had entered the service station and threatened a 20-year-old staff member with a sawn-off rifle.
The man left the scene with cash and was last seen running west along Robertson St.
Despite extensive inquiries at the time, the man was unable to be identified. However, 14 years later, the case was reviewed, leading detectives to Rangihaeata, who was in Queensland.
Queensland Police, by virtue of a NSW warrant, swooped on Rangihaeata at a hotel in Acacia Ridge on Tuesday morning.
He was taken to the Brisbane Watch House before facing the Brisbane Magistrates Court, which approved his extradition to NSW.
Detectives accompanied Rangihaeata on Wednesday to Sydney Airport, from which he was taken to Mascot Police Station.
There, he was charged with robbery while armed with a dangerous weapon.
Rangihaeata faced Downing Centre Local Court on Thursday and was remanded in custody to reappear in July.
