Alleged OneFour gang associates accused of attempting to murder a man outside an Oxford Street nightclub allegedly implicated themselves in the crime in a series of phone calls secretly recorded by police, a court has heard.
Police allege the six men - Ronaldo David, Adam Ghaboush, Frank Bosco, Ibrahim Konomamyi, Emmanuel Majak and Sunday Bosco - attacked 26-year-old Abdul Kamara outside Noir Nightclub in the early hours of July 29 last year after spotting him inside the venue earlier in the night.
Court documents said Mr Kamara was viciously bashed by the group before two of alleged attackers stabbed him nine times in the chest and leg with a machete and a filleting knife, leaving him in hospital for eight days.
A good Samaritan who attempted to intervene was also stabbed in the hand, police will allege.
Documents tendered to the NSW Supreme Court during Frank Bosco’s recent bail application reveal detectives placed phone taps on mobiles belonging to Ghaboush, David and Konomamyi during their investigation.
It is alleged Ghaboush rang David on August 31 and told him “police don’t know shit. They’ve only got me, no Frank, no Savoo.”
The court heard within hours of police releasing CCTV footage of the incident in a public appeal for information on September 11, Ghaboush was allegedly recorded on the phone with a friend who asked him “are you in the video?”
“Nah, Double O and that … they got MC … MC and Double O,” he allegedly replied.
Police will allege David’s nickname is Double O.
Three days later, David was allegedly overheard speaking to an associate who had rented the car allegedly used by the group that night.
“Cause they’ve got the rego plate off the car and they’ve come to me because it was hired in my name right?” the associate asked.
“They’ve got you, Joel and E running away after shanking some c—t with a knife. So they want you for attempted murder.”
David allegedly responded “Yeah, and the people who they showed is me … them three people. If they really knew it was me, they would put it on the news ‘wanted for this’, like they do to every criminal.”
The court heard detectives arrested David in Queensland a week later on September 21, Ghaboush the following day and Frank Bosco on October 20.
The other men - Konomamyi, Majak and Sunday Bosco - were also subsequently arrested. All six men, bar Sunday Bosco, have been charged with causing wounding with intent to murder, reckless wounding in company and affray.
Sunday Bosco is only facing charges of affray and assault occasioning actual bodily harm in company.
During Frank Bosco’s bail application, his legal team argued the case against their client was a weak one, saying CCTV footage of the incident was “unclear” on the identity of the perpetrators.
They also said witness accounts were “very vague”, referring only to people of “African or Middle Eastern appearance” and failing to identify any relevant clothing being worn or descriptors like height, weight or build.
However, prosecutors said a person known to Frank Bosco had identified him inside the club.
Justice Deborah Sweeney refused to release the 22-year-old from custody on account of the serious nature of the offence and the risk he posed to public safety if bailed.
The case will return to court on July 11.
