‘Foot soldier’ charged over crime boss murder fears for safety

An alleged Haouchar crime family “foot soldier” charged with gangster Alen Moradian’s murder is so scared for his safety he has asked for his name to be hidden.

The young man, who can now only be referred to as “TXR”, was denied bail in the Supreme Court last week where it heard how he is at risk of harm from bikie gangs and crime figures behind bars.

The milieu of Sydney’s criminal underworld currently in custody is believed to contain several friends of Moradian, who himself spent years in jail for drug offences.

It adds another layer of secrecy onto one of the most brazen underworld killings since the gangland war started in 2020.

The man charged with masterminding the plot, one of Moradian’s closest former friends and a well-known underworld figure, can also only be referred to as “AA”.

Moradian’s death was considered one of the most brazen in the underworld war.

The court was told how the young man was “a foot soldier of the Haouchar OCN” and in the inner circle of AA, with covert recordings capturing him at his lush country estate.

AA, the court heard, is a close associate of fugitive crime boss Bilal Haouchar.

It is there at the country home police allege the young man was part of a group who planned to take out Moradian over a drug debt between him and AA.

When there, the court heard, they did everything to be careful about discussing the alleged plot.

Covert recordings inside the home of AA allegedly catch them “whispering” about locating the Moradians and AA introducing TXR to other crime figures.

“It is believed these entities were involved in the planning phases of the murder of Alen Moradian,” police allege in court documents.

In another attempt to keep the alleged plot under wraps, TXR’s legal team told the court AA and his associates would only speak in vague terms about Moradian when their client was around.

The young man charged with murder is alleged to have planted tracking devices on a Bentley belonging to Moradian’s wife Natasha in a bid to try and track down the convicted drug importer.

TXR’s lawyers argued the trackers could have been used for multiple purposes.

“The applicant used trackers for, on the Crown case … to arrange for them to be placed on cars so he could track those cars and rip off drugs from those cars,” his barrister Philip Strickland SC said.

The young man offered up a surety, strict home detention conditions and to wear an electronic ankle monitor in order to secure his release from prison.

He was denied bail by Justice Peter Garling.
