Alameddine associate John Bayssari hands himself into police

Two wanted Alameddine associates are in police custody after John Bayssari handed himself in while another man remains on the run.

An Alameddine associate wanted by police for his alleged involvement in gangland activity in Sydney’s southwest has handed himself in as another remains on the run.

The State Crime Command’s Criminal Group Squad in December issued an appeal to help find 31-year-old John Bayssari and two other men wanted as part of outstanding arrest warrants.

Police previously raised concerns the three men could be trying to flee the country and were thought to be travelling together.

Bayssari, who police allege is an associate of the notorious Alameddine crime family, handed himself into police at Parramatta Police Station about 5pm on Monday after weeks on the run.

He was charged with nine offences including drug possession and supply, dealing with the proceeds of crime and participating in a criminal group.

Bayssari was refused bail and is due to appear at Parramatta Local Court on Tuesday.

One of his alleged associates, senior gang figure Masood Zakaria, remains on the run.

The 26-year-old is wanted by police over an arrest warrant for conspiring and agree to murder any person, two counts of knowingly direct activities of criminal group, participate criminal group contribute criminal activity, commercial drug supply, deal with proceeds of crime and contravene serious crime prevention order.

Late last month, 25-year-old Alameddine associate Joseph Vokai was arrested on charges related to directing a criminal group following a joint operation between Australia Federal Police, Australian Border Force and the Australian Criminal Intelligence Commission.

He was charged with two counts of knowingly directing the activities of a criminal group, participating in a criminal group and contributing to criminal activity, and dealing with property which is the proceeds of crime.

Vokai has pleaded not guilty to the charges and the matter remains before the courts.
