An aged-care worker has been charged after allegedly sexually assaulting seven elderly residents, including some with dementia, in a Sydney nursing home.

Tracy Salmon, 46, allegedly used her mobile phone to film herself carrying out the shocking attacks on the residents — who on many occasions were so unwell they were unaware of what was going on — before sharing the videos with her boyfriend.

NSW Police detectives from the State Crime Command’s Sex Crimes Squad on Thursday charged Salmon with more than 40 separate offences relating to her alleged sexual attacks on the elderly and vulnerable.

Police allege the attacks against five men and two women occurred over a period of three weeks at an aged-care home in Sydney’s southwest.

An investigation into her alleged actions began last month, with families of the residents, who were oblivious to their loved ones’ alleged suffering, informed about the arrest and charges on Thursday before it was made public.

In a statement, police said they launched Strike Force Saddleworth last month as part of an expanded investigation into Salmon, and soon uncovered videos on her phone of her alleged attacks.

“As part of inquiries, detectives seized the woman’s phone and uncovered videos depicting sexual abuse being carried out against elderly patients at an aged-care facility,” a NSW Police spokeswoman said in a statement.

“It will be further alleged the woman was sharing the videos of the assault with her partner, a 54-year-old man.

“Detectives also discovered acts of bestiality recorded on the phone.”

Salmon was charged with four bestiality-related charges - unrelated to the aged care facillity - in addition to four counts of aggravated sexual assault, 11 counts of aggravated sexual touching, two counts of sexual touching, 13 counts of recording an intimate image without consent, and nine counts of distributing an intimate image without consent.

An executive spokesperson from the aged care facility, which cannot be named for legal reasons, said the organisation only became aware of the allegations following police enquiries on April 23.

“We can confirm the alleged offender stopped working with our organisation in November last year after approximately 12 months of employment,” the spokesperson said.

“The individual no longer works in the aged care sector.”

“Our primary concern is the welfare of our residents and their families. We have contacted the families involved and we are providing counselling and ongoing support.”

The Aged Care Quality and Safety Commission have since been notified of the allegations and an internal review launched, the spokesperson added.

“We understand how this matter will impact the community and want to assure everyone that we will stay strong and work through this together,” they said.

“We remain committed to upholding the dignity and respect of every individual in our care and across our community.”

During their investigations into Salmon detectives also allegedly uncovered acts of bestiality by her boyfriend Troy Campbell.

Just after 6am on Wednesday, Strike Force Saddleworth detectives – along with the Public Order & Riot Squad – raided Campbell’s home in Heckenberg and arrested him.

Police said they seized the man’s phone, which they then took away so it could undergo further forensic examination, during a search of the home.

Campbell was placed in the back of a police van and taken to Liverpool Police Station.

There, he was charged with four counts each of possessing bestiality material and disseminating bestiality material.

Police do not allege Campbell was involved in the sexual attacks at the aged-care home.

Campbell was refused police bail and faced Liverpool Local Court on Thursday, when he was granted conditional bail to reappear in Campbelltown Local Court on June 18.

Salmon is set to face Campbelltown Local Court on her array of charges on Monday.
