More than 300 people called Crime Stoppers SA with information on cold case murders and kidnappings last year, the not-for-profit organisation has revealed.

Callers to the anonymous hotline provided information on high-profile cases like the abduction and suspected murder of Rhianna Barreau in 1992 and the unsolved murders of Peter Seaford, Corinna Marr and Gail King.

As a result of 22,598 phone calls and 4539 online reports received by Crime Stoppers last year, police were able to remove 103 firearms from the streets of South Australia as well as large amounts of ammunition and accessories.

Police also seized 1329 cannabis plants, 200kg of dried cannabis and 4kg of amphetamine as a result of reports from the community.

One drug lab was also shut down and dismantled.

Crime Stoppers chairwoman Sharon Hanlon said that more than 11,000 intelligence reports had been passed on to SA Police and other law enforcement agencies.

“As one of South Australia’s most successful and trusted not-for-profit charities, these strong results reinforce that Crime Stoppers SA continues to make a real difference when it comes to solving and preventing crime in South Australia,” she said.

“Especially with 436 apprehensions and 859 charges being laid for an array of crimes throughout the year.”

The charges range from drug dealing to firearms offences, serious assaults and robbery.

Among the cold case reports was information on the 2012 shooting murder of Jason De Ieso at his Pooraka workshop in 2012.

Nine people have been arrested in relation to the murder, which police will allege was part of an escalating bikie war between the Hells Angels and the Finks.

Seven men have been charged with murder while another man and a woman were charged with assisting an offender. The charges against the woman have since been dropped.

Mr De Ieso was an innocent victim of the feud with the intended target of the shooting leaving the workshop only minutes before nine armed men arrived.

Rhianna Barreau’s 1992 disappearance is one of the state’s most baffling unsolved crimes.

The disappearance of Rhianna Barreau from near her Morphett Vale home in October 1992 remains one of South Australia’s most baffling crimes.

The 12-year-old disappeared without a trace after returning home from buying a gift card for an American pen friend.

Her parents returned home to find the television on, the gift card on the kitchen table and a record on the floor but no sign of their daughter.

The reward for information on the suspected murder of the 12-year-old stands at $1 million.
