THIS is a two-for-one travel deal with a difference.
In a bold move for the travel industry, Australia’s leading youth travel retailer is shaking up traditional airfare restrictions to offer two passengers the opportunity to travel in one business class seat.
From April 1, Student Flights will introduce the exclusive top-to-tail business class seat category to capitalise on the extra space afforded to business class passengers where the average seat has a width of 21 inches versus 17 inches in economy class.
Student Flights national marketing manager Phil Hancox said the company listened to its customers before introducing the unconventional seating arrangement.
“We specialise in youth travel where budget hotels and cheap flights are the norm, however traveller tastes have changed in recent years with the demand for reasonably priced premium air travel increasing,” Mr Hancox said.
“Essentially, our customers are telling us they want first rate travel experiences at backpacker prices.”
The world-first move is good news for travellers who are prepared to get up-close-and-personal with their travel companion.
“Our customers are willing to compromise on some personal luxuries to make their dream trip a reality and routinely save money in creative ways like sharing a bunk bed or by travelling by bus instead of plane, so the concept of sharing a lie-flat bed in business class is an easy next step,” Mr Hancox said.
Mr Hancox said the nature of sharing a seat may be foreign to many travellers, but that Student Flights customers would see it as cost effective way of experiencing first-rate travel that is otherwise out of their price range.
“Two passengers in one seat means customers are getting all the bells and whistles of travelling in the pointy end of the plane, but only paying half the seat cost,” he said.
“This is an intimate travel experience so better suited to friends or a couple travelling together, and we suggest sleeping in a top-to-toe configuration to maximise the space or adopting the spooning position.”
Student Flights customers are encouraged to register their interest in the one-of-a-kind seating on the brand’s website.
