BRISBANE Roar midfielder Liam Miller has been making the most of Queensland’s stunning beaches since moving to the team last year.

The Irish international played 26 games for Celtic and 22 for Manchester United, and was one of four Roar players chosen to represent the Foxtel-A League All Stars in a match against Manchester United last year.

A former teammate of Cristiano Ronaldo and having played in some of the world’s largest stadiums, Miller says he’s loving life in Australia and considers himself one lucky guy.

What are the best things about living in Australia?

LM: Lifestyle, scenery and, of course, it’s a great place to play football. Six months before I came to Australia, I was playing in the freezing cold up in Aberdeen, Scotland, where it was snowing. It’s definitely nice to play football in the warm weather.

What do you miss most about Ireland?

LM: Family, friends and being home. I was born and bred there so it’s always nice to go back and see everyone. I don’t do it often enough, although when I do get back things never seem to have changed that much (laughs).

What’s the best thing you’ve eaten since living in Australia?

LM: When I lived in Perth, I had a local Chinese place I used to go to once or twice a week. I loved it.

What do you like to do when you’re not training?

LM: Well I’ve got three kids so most of my time is spent with them but I do like a game of golf or a trip to the beach whenever I get the chance – it’s always nice here to have that option (laughs).

Favourite place to travel in Australia?

LM: From what I’ve seen so far, I really like Byron Bay. I’ve only been there once for a day visit but it was great, I could live down there to be honest. It’s a beautiful place, so chilled out with lots of beautiful scenery.

Overseas?

LM: New York. I think it’s such a cool city. There’s just that buzz about it. I’ve been lucky enough to go there in the past and I really enjoyed my time there.

Is there anything you can’t travel without?

LM: My laptop. I like taking it for emails and catching up on TV or movies. I think I’d be lost without it on these football trips. I know I should read more but a good movie or a box set tends to pass the time a little bit quicker.

What has travel taught you?

LM: I’m really lucky in my profession that I can see the world and I’ve seen some beautiful places. I never thought I’d get the chance to play in Australia and now I am. I’ve been able to travel around the country, I’ve lived in Perth and now Brisbane. I feel very grateful that I’ve been able to see so many places doing what I love.
