FROM children kicking a homemade soccer ball on top of a mountain to an Alaskan brown bear splashing through a river hunting for salmon, the Smithsonian has released the best pictures from around the world.
The 11th Annual photo contest saw more than 50,000 amazing images submitted by photographers from 132 different countries.
The judges have selected 60 finalists — 10 from six categories: The Natural World, Travel, People, Americana, Altered Images and Mobile.
The new category of “Mobile” included stunning images of animals, weather and people taken on devices such as iPhones — a growing trend in photography competitions.
The full range of entries from the finalists can be seen at Smithsonian.com where you can vote for Readers’ Choice.
The winners will be revealed on May 15.
