Luxury liner Queen Mary 2 docks in Sydney and gets ready to celebrate its 10th birthday

SYDNEY will help celebrate the Queen Mary 2’s 10th birthday today after she sailed into Circular Quay this morning.

SYDNEY will help celebrate the Queen Mary 2Â’s 10th birthday today after she sailed into Circular Quay this morning.

The iconic luxury liner has sailed into the Harbour City from Melbourne before she heads off on her second circumnavigation of Australia.

Superliner stats:

  • 345m long.
  • 23 decks.
  • Sailed the equivalent of three times to the moon and back.
  • Is the only liner with planetarium.
  • Has the largest ballroom on liner.
  • Boasts a six-storey grand lobby .

Carnival Australia spokesman David Jones said Sydney was the Queen Mary’s “home away from home”.

“It is the most famous ocean liner in the world, the longest and the fastest.” he said.

In her 10 years at sea, Queen Mary 2 has sailed 1.5 million nautical miles and carried 1.3 million passenger in ultra-luxury cruising.

“Queen Mary 2 is the benchmark of international cruising and today’s arrival in Sydney is a visual statement of why Australians love this ship so much,” Carnival Australia CEO Ann Sherry said.

Served more than 58 million meals, enough to feed the combined population of Sydney, Hong Kong, Cape Town, Rio and Dubai for an entire weekend

Looked after tea lovers with 21.9 million cups of tea, enough to fill three Olympic swimming pools

Baked 2.7 million scones, which if stacked on top of each other would reach a soaring 80km in height
