Tottenham beat Sunderland to ease pressure on AVB, while the Crystal Palace revival continues

SPURS claimed a come-from-behind win against Sunderland, while Crystal Palace continued their revival against Cardiff.

TOTTENHAM Hotspur pursued their Premier League revival by coming from behind to win 2-1 away to bottom club Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.

A 50th-minute own goal from Sunderland captain John O'Shea settled the game, after Adam Johnson's first-half opener was swiftly cancelled out by Spurs' Brazil midfielder Paulinho.

The victory left Andre Villas-Boas's side in sixth place in the table, two points below the Champions League places, after both Chelsea and Manchester City dropped points earlier in the day.

Sunderland, meanwhile, remain five points from safety at the foot of the table, having now gone four games without tasting victory since a 1-0 win at home to City on November 10.

The early skirmishes saw Fletcher drill wide from a Jozy Altidore flick, before Holtby worked Sunderland goalkeeper Vito Mannone at the other end with a well-struck drive that may have been drifting just wide.

Sunderland made the breakthrough in the 37th minute, with Spurs goalkeeper Hugo Lloris at fault.

In attempting to punch clear a right-wing cross from Celustka, the France goalkeeper administered only a weak glancing blow, and Johnson was on hand to lash the loose ball into the exposed goal.

Fortunately for Lloris, it took Spurs only six minutes to equalise, with Paulinho stabbing home from close range after a deep free-kick was nodded down at the back post by Chadli.

Celustka then tested Lloris's alertness with a rasping drive, while Chadli saw a header land on the roof of the net in first-half injury time.

It had been an evenly contested encounter up to that point, but O'Shea's unfortunate own goal five minutes into the second half tipped the balance of the game in the visitors' favour.

NORWICH boosted their chances of avoiding relegation from the Premier League with a 2-0 victory against West Bromwich Albion.

Chris Hughton's team were thrashed by Liverpool in midweek and speculation was mounting that the Canaries boss would be sacked if they failed to get a positive result at the Hawthorns.

Hughton's players rose to the challenge and Gary Hooper opened the scoring early in the first half before Leroy Fer's late strike sealed the points.

Norwich's second away win of the season lifted them into 14th place and they remain four points above the relegation zone.

It is now one win in nine games for the Baggies and Steve Clarke's side were booed off at full-time.

Norwich were quickly into their stride and they took the lead with a fine strike from Hooper in the 13th minute.

Nathan Redmond fed Fer, who picked out the striker's run with the aid of a deflection off Diego Lugano's heel.

The angle of the pass was taking Hooper away from goal but he fizzed a superb strike beyond Boaz Myhill.

The hosts remained on the offensive, with Ruddy tipping a fierce Anichebe shot wide of goal.

Clarke made two changes at the break, bringing on Shane Long and Saido Berahino for Liam Ridgewell and Amalfitano.

The switches initially helped Albion and they should have been level in the 52nd minute when Sessegnon surged past two Norwich defenders into the box, but the Frenchman rolled his shot wide of the post.

Mulumbu then fizzed an effort wide but all the home side's pressure came to nothing and they were punished in the 89th minute as Redmond found Fer for the midfielder to cut inside and fire low past Myhill.

MAROUANE Chamakh's second goal in as many games and one from Cameron Jerome against his former club saw Crystal Palace to a 2-0 win over Cardiff and their first back to back wins in the Premier League since 2004 on Saturday.

Victory was the second in a row under new manager Tony Pulis and lifted them up to 13 points, still in the relegation zone but only because of a worse goal difference than West Ham.

Cardiff, who have failed to score in four successive away games, are fifth from bottom and have won just once in their last nine games, a 1-0 win over fellow Welsh side Swansea on November 3.

Palace and Cardiff enjoyed a fairly even first-half but it was the hosts that went in at the break in the lead thanks to a goal by Jerome as he headed home a cross by Jason Puncheon.

His goal came just seconds after Cardiff should have scored but a header by an unmarked Fraizer Campbell was saved superbly by Julian Speroni.

The hosts went close through the influential Barry Bannan but had to be satisfied with just the one goal lead at half-time.

However, they doubled their lead shortly before the hour mark as Moroccan international Chamakh fired the ball home for the 29-year-old's third goal of the season.

Palace thought they had added a third but Jerome's effort was ruled out for not having crossed the line but it didn't matter as they easily held out against a Cardiff side lacking in creativity and firepower.
