NOBODY asked for them but now they are clogging your Facebook feed. Goofy cartoons called bitstrips have replaced giraffe memes as the social media trend of the week.

Users create the cartoon strips of themselves and their friends in a humorous situation using a Facebook app.

It's simple enough to have a bit of fun and create a likeness of yourself.

But if you're quick to sour on the latest Facebook sensation you're in luck because there is a way to block most of them from your feed.

All you have to do is click the downward arrow in the top righthand corner of a Bitstrips Facebook post and select the "hide all from Bitstrips" option.

The marketing material for the "customisable avatar-creation tool" claims 20 million people, or just under the population of Australia, have already used the app.
